Featuring Chef Jim Harrison

Chef Jim Harrison lives in Chocoura NH with his wife Carolyn and 3 boys. He has been in the restaurant business in New England for the last 20 years. After working with his brother-in-law on an organic farm in Maine he set his sights on a new growing restaurant concept, The Flatbread Company. Chef Harrison and Flatbread shared many of the same core values: a commitment to community, sustainability, local organic food, and a place where children and adults can renew their spirit. Simple food that tastes really great. “As my mom say’s that’s what food used to be.”

The Flatbread Company is a community-oriented company where working hard, having fun, and doing their part in saving the planet are all in a day’s work. “Come in and renew your spirit with us” and experience a meal prepared with organic produce, free-range chicken, and nitrate-free meats. Flatbread insists on local organic produce and free-range “clean” meats. All their major ingredients are made in-house and cooked in a wood-fired cauldron or in a hand-built wood-burning earthen oven – “authentic, truthful and real...”

In the last decade people are using their rights as consumers to challenge their communities to buy local. “When buying locally you are preserving the green landscape we all hold dear, and are channeling money into the local community and minimizing our carbon footprint.” Jim was instantly drawn to the North East Family Farms program. “D&B has taken bold steps to modernize processing plants throughout the north east and solved the distribution issues facing local farmers enabling the farmers to get fair market value for products.”

North East Family Farms has empowered Jim and The Flatbread Company to compliment their menu by featuring products from local farms throughout the Northeast. They are able to put a face to the food and in turn educate the staff about the farm the food has been sourced - right down to the farmer’s name and location.
